Advent: Join the Triumph預覽
The Scripture:
"But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news. It will bring great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you. He is the Messiah, the Lord" (Luke 2:10-11, NIRV).
The Story:
When I wanted to grow up I wanted to be a sports announcer. I thought it was the coolest job ever and it seemed very easy. You just watch sports for a living, and whatever you see, you just say it out loud. Seems like a pretty sweet gig to me. Sports announcing also seems like the best job ever because you get to bring good news to people! Good news makes people happy, and announcing good news makes everyone feel better. Good news like “we won,” or “snow day: no school,” or “no crockpot for dinner, only pizza!”
Our Scripture today tells the story of the Angels bringing Good News. This Good News is more than something that brings happiness, it brings Great Joy for all people. This News is that Jesus was born! This announcement is basically the first Christmas card, except instead of a card it is an Angel from Heaven that is so scary, the first thing the Angel says is, “Don’t be afraid”. But this announcement is how the news of Jesus’ Birth spreads. That Jesus, God’s only Son, was born and He is the One so many have waited on.
This devotional will go through the Bible to look at how long people waited for Jesus, and how much we need Jesus. Our hearts were made so that Jesus could be our Best Friend, and it’s only through Jesus that we can be saved. This is the Good News of Christmas.
The Triumph:
Years later, Jesus would grow up and eventually be framed for a crime that He didn’t commit and He would die – but He died for a reason. He died to pay for our sins, and three days later He came back to life. When Jesus came back to life through God’s Power, He proved that God is Stronger than anything. When Jesus died and rose again, He defeated sin, death, and evil. All of this happened because Jesus was born. Before Jesus could die out of Love for us and resurrect from the grave, He had to be born. The Greatest Victory of all time started in a manger with Angels announcing the Good News.
