The Heart of a Diva
Theologians estimate that Mary was about fifteen when she experienced her visitation from the angel Gabriel. In the face of the enormous charge she had been given, she calmly considered all the options, asked the appropriate questions, and quietly yielded to God’s plan for her life. Though being asked to be the mother of the Son of God was quite a lofty position, she considered herself a servant of the Most High and remained humble. She pondered all the things she heard and saw in her heart. At the appropriate time, she released her Son into the fullness of His calling by encouraging His first miracle. She was present at His crucifixion, and she was also present in the upper room, awaiting the visitation of the Holy Spirit after Jesus rose and ascended back to heaven. She went down in history as the one who was given the awesome title of “blessed and highly favored,” the ultimate diva moniker.
Mary surrendered to God’s plan for her life, trusting Him to work out the details. She understood the depth of what she had been called to do, going against the instincts of a mother to cling to her child. She released her Son to fulfill His purpose despite the pain it would cause her.
The greatest people in the world are those who don’t know it. The biggest stars I’ve met were the most gracious people. Down-to-earth, over themselves, and went out of their way to treat those who were not as renowned with great kindness.
Self-importance has to be one of the most unattractive features a human being can ever display. Small wonder the Bible says that God gives grace to the humble, but resists the proud.
A truly divine diva is a woman who knows that life is not about her, but rather the contribution she makes to others around her and the legacy she will leave behind.
Div-otion
Dear heavenly Father, help me to get over myself and concentrate on being a tool in Your divine hand for the greater good of others. As I plant seeds in the lives of those You have assigned to me, help me to yield a life and a legacy that You will smile upon. Amen.
