What's in a Name?預覽
Being forgiven for Jesus’ name’s sake
The essence of the Gospel is that humans receive forgiveness because Jesus Christ has paid the price for their sin. Many Bible verses mention Jesus’ name is this context. Let me list a few:
- “To all who did receive him, who believed in his name, He gave the right to become children of God” (John 1:12)
- “… so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name” (John 20:31)
- “This is his commandment, that we believe in the name of his Son Jesus Christ...” (1 John 3:23)
Jesus’ name stands for his identity as our Savior. The name Jesus literally means “the one who saves”. This name fits perfectly with Him! So, when the angel Gabriel announced Jesus’ birth, he told Joseph and Mary, “you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.” The name / title Christ means “anointed”, as in being anointed as king or priest. Jesus is the Son of God who has been ordained by God the Father to provide salvation for humans. He is our Savior. Lift high the name of Jesus!
