What's in a Name?預覽
God defines reality and gives everything its name
Genesis 1 records how God defines reality by creating all things, ordering all things and naming all things. He names the day and the night, the sky, the earth and the seas. He defines what is and what is good. He defines the world his creatures are to live in and guarantees that this world will be stable and reliable. As God assures Noah after the flood: “While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night, shall not cease.” (Genesis 8:22)
God also creates humans and gives them a special place in his creation. “When God created man, He made him in the likeness of God … and named them Man when they were created.” (Genesis 5:1-2) But the first humans are not content with their position. They want to redefine themselves and “be like God”! (see Genesis 3:4-6). This decision has severely damaged humanity’s relationship with God and with the world around them. And this problem still continues, since present day humans tend to do exactly the same: that is, redefine themselves as gods and disregard the boundaries God has stipulated for them.
Are you aware that God Himself has defined and named the framework conditions of life on earth?
