Day 3: Stand On God’s Rest 

My ideal vacation is the beach. That’s where I go to unplug, unwind and get a tan. I feel like I get real rest while lying in the sand. No dishes to clean, no laundry, and no laptop with two-hundred emails left unread. A lot of us love vacations, and it’s healthy to unplug from the day-to-day. But what if I told you that God gives us rest in the middle of our crazy everyday life? 

Sounds pretty amazing doesn’t it? Well it’s true. He says, “come to me those who are weary and I will give you rest.” The kind of rest that’s even better than a tropical vacation, rest that is somehow freeing even when life is stressful. 

How can we find this rest? We ask God to take on the things we can’t. We meet with Him throughout the day and ask Him to carry our burdens. When we give everything up to God and trust Him with everything, He gives us peace.

It is simple. Finding rest in Jesus can be getting off your phone and reading your Bible. Or maybe it looks like getting up ten minutes earlier and going for a prayer walk.

 Jesus set the perfect example on how to rest. He made time to talk to God. Even though He was busy saving all humanity, He knew that spending time with His Father would give Him rest. If even Jesus needed to rest, how much more do we need it? 

Just like Jesus did, when we ask God to carry our burdens, He takes the weight off and gives us rest. We can stand on God’s promise to give us rest. 

Reflection and Prayer:

Does it seem impossible to find rest right now? Think through your day and see if you can find even five minutes to dedicate to talking to Jesus. During that five minutes, ask God for rest and strength to live with open hands, standing on His promise to carry your burdens.
