Gospel of John Student Devotional预览

I love when the topic of conversations turns to Jesus. I love to talk about Jesus; telling others how amazing He is and all the awesome things He’s done. How I see Him moving in my life, and in other people's lives, too. Although I love to both discuss and tell people about Jesus, sometimes I have to take a step back and examine my heart. I have to ask myself the question, “Am I focused on building my own reputation or am I focused on pointing people towards Jesus?”
In John chapter 3, John shows us that we can be popular and share about Jesus while maintaining humility. In chapter 3, John is baptizing several people and sharing God's word. As he is doing these great things he reminds his disciples and himself in verse 28 that he is not the Christ, but he was sent before him. John reminds us that he knew who Jesus was and he knew who he himself was. John understood that he could keep his proper place; not placing himself too high and thinking that he was Christ, but also not placing himself too low and thinking that he had no place or calling in God's plan.
We can do amazing things and share the good news of Jesus, but we need to do so with a humble posture. John 3:30 says “He must increase, but I must decrease.” Jesus should become more visible and known and we as his servants should become less and less visible. Remember that true discipleship is lifting up others to God. Discipleship is not for personal glory. So, ask yourself: When I share about Jesus, do I have the posture of looking for personal gain, or am I walking humbly and pointing people to Jesus?
