Who You Are in Light of Who God Is

It’s a daily fight to believe the truth of God’s Word. The Word is able to bring us out of deep waters and into the light. In the darkest seasons, on the hardest days, and even on the mountaintops, The Word has been the anchor of my soul and a solid and firm foundation. There have been many days where believing the truth has been a fight and I have carried around notecards of scripture in my pocket to cling to the Word.

We cling to the Word because we know that He can be trusted. His promises are true. His Word is powerful. Psalm 119 says it so beautifully

"Let your steadfast love come to me, O Lord,
your salvation according to your promise;
then shall I have an answer for him who taunts me,
for I trust in your word.
And take not the word of truth utterly out of my mouth,
for my hope is in your rules.
I will keep your law continually,
forever and ever,
and I shall walk in a wide place,
for I have sought your precepts.
I will also speak of your testimonies before kings
and shall not be put to shame,
for I find my delight in your commandments,
which I love."
Psalm 119:41-47 (ESV)

Yesterday we spent some time talking about how fighting the fight of faith is central to being a disciple of Jesus. Ephesians 6 identifies the Word of God as our “sword of the Spirit”. It’s how we work offensively against the work of the enemy to steal, kill and destroy.

We are equipped to fight well when we saturate ourselves in God’s Word. God has given us the gift of His promises through the Word to tell us who He is and who He says we are. Because of Jesus, the Word Himself, we are new and we get to choose every single day to live in our new identity by faith in Christ.

I created this list below to help remind you daily of who you are in Christ. These are only a few of the many verses in the Bible that tell us of our identity in Christ. My hope is that you might print these verses out, tape a few to your fridge or your mirror, or make it your wallpaper on your phone, and that in keeping the truth near and accessible, you will cling to his Word throughout the day.

After all, it really is good news :)
