The Success of Joseph预览
The Pit
We won't always fully understand how God's plans will unfold.
As Christians, we sometimes think that God is obligated to tell us clearly everything we need to do in our lives. The truth is that we already find direction in His Word. We need to keep moving forward. God acts as we walk (Proverbs 16:9).
God does not leave us without a future (Jeremiah 29:11). Hold on to what He has already said—base your hope on that. Even if life seems confusing, remember what God has already spoken to you and keep it in your heart.
One day, Joseph went to Dothan to look for his brothers, and the Bible says that from a distance, when the brothers saw Joseph, they planned to kill him. "Here comes that dreamer!” They threw Joseph into a pit without water and sold him to the Ishmaelites as a slave. Imagine Joseph's pain; imagine how his heart felt.
In life, we also go through some pits, and there are two types of suffering we face: those we cause ourselves and those others cause us. Joseph was going through the second type.
He was the youngest, and those who should have been looking after him, as older brothers, had the desire to kill him in their hearts. Joseph's suffering was caused by the malice of his brothers.
We also have moments in our lives when we find ourselves in a pit without water. Everything was going well; we didn't expect this. A spouse's betrayal, the news of an illness, mistreatment by a child, abuse by a relative, disappointment from a friend. Some pits are so deep and dry that we think there's no way out. The pit of bitterness, abuse, betrayal, disappointment.
Life will inevitably place us in deep, dry pits that seem inescapable. Are you in one of those pits today?
The good news is that our God sees us even in the moments when we are in the deepest pits. He did not forget Joseph, and He will not forget you either.
