FINDING PEACE

“Finding peace” can sound more mystical than practical. But God gives us the answers and the help we need to do just that in His Word.

Philippians 4:4-8 says, "Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things."

When we read this passage, we're given a step-by-step guide to receiving God's peace. Peace can often seem so unreachable, but this scripture makes it simple. Verses 4-6 encourages us to be joyful in the Lord and gracious to everyone. When we feel fear creeping in, we can pray and bring our worries to God - He can guard our hearts and minds. 

Next, in verses 7-8, we're told to dwell on the positive—things that are true, honorable, just, pure, and lovely. What you magnify is what will multiply. It can be difficult to find those good and pure things to think about when negativity seems to be running rampant. But what can you dwell on that is positive? Maybe you saw people come together to serve one another. Or perhaps a powerful message recently inspired you to love God more. This scripture is telling us that if we meditate on these good things, God will be with us, and we will receive His peace. 

TRY THIS: 

Each day, write down something in your life that demonstrates the truth, goodness, and purity found in verse 8. For instance, on Monday, list something that is true. Then Tuesday, write about what is noble or honorable and so on. You will find the positive work of God in your life when you truly look for it.   

PRAYER

Father, Thank You for your graciousness. I ask that You fill me with Your overwhelming and supernatural peace. Help me to focus my thoughts on things that are positive and noble. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
