Salty and Shiny - A Study of the BeatitudesÀpẹrẹ
Blessed Are The Poor
The poor being spoken of in this context are the spiritually poor. These are the ones who know just how spiritually bankrupt and empty they are without Christ in their lives. The poor in spirit are those who know their need for God and so are hopelessly dependent on Him. The promise that Jesus gives is that the Kingdom of God is theirs. Imagine this - the inheritance of the kingdom is for everyone who knows just how inadequate they are on their own and for those are desperately dependent on the King for just about everything.
A realization of our insufficiency will automatically magnify the all-sufficiency of Christ.
Today, how poor are you in spirit? Do you realize that Christ in you is the hope of glory (Colossians 1:27) and that apart from him you can do nothing? (John 15:5)
Jesus doesn’t look at you as a co-dependent, poverty-stricken soul. He looks at you with the greatest compassion and love, moving in where you are weak to make you infinitely strong. All you have to do is ask!

The Christian journey is one of varied experiences. Irrespective of the season of life we are in, we must be able to leave a mark on those around us so that they experience Jesus or at the very least be curious about what’s different in us. Our prayer is that you will effortlessly bring out the God flavors and colors in every season you find yourself in.
