Day 2: Surrendering Control

The idea of having everything under control may give us a sense of temporary security, but in reality, it is an illusion. At the heart of the Christian life, there is a foundational principle: true security doesn’t come from our own human strength but from trusting in God, who is infinitely greater than us.

Psalm 46:10 clearly invites us: “Be still, and know that I am God,” and yet, how often do we scramble to solve every problem, clinging to our own strength and abilities? We do this thinking that everything is in our hands, forgetting that God not only sees what we cannot see but that He already has a plan and a solution for every challenge we face.

Think about the Israelites at the Red Sea. They thought they had no way out: behind them were the Egyptians, and in front of them, an impassable sea. Yet, God didn’t ask them to fight or find a solution; He simply said: “Do not be afraid. Stand firm and see the deliverance of the Lord” (Exodus 14:13-14). It was in that moment of stillness and trust that God displayed His power, parting the waters and making a way for Israel.

Letting go of control may seem frightening because it requires admitting our limits, however, within that vulnerability, lies a profound truth: God has never asked us to do everything on our own. Instead, He invites us to acknowledge that His ways are "higher than our ways" (Isaiah 55:8-9). Surrendering control means aligning ourselves with His sovereignty, believing that our weakness is an opportunity to see His strength in action (2 Corinthians 12:9).

It is precisely when we acknowledge that control is not ours that we find freedom and peace. This act of faith allows us to stop striving for every detail and to place the things we are unable to control into His hands, knowing that “All things work together for the good of those who love God” (Romans 8:28). This trust becomes even more critical in times of transition: a new job, an unexpectedly closed door, or an unachieved goal that requires adjustments to our original plan. Letting go doesn't always mean giving up, rather, creating space for God to move in ways we never imagined.

Reflective Questions:

  • In which areas of my life am I trying to control things, not giving God room to move?
  • What practical steps can I take today to let go and entrust everything to Him?

Prayer: Lord, I recognize that Your ways are higher than mine, and Your wisdom surpasses all understanding. I surrender to You today in every area where I’ve been struggling to maintain control. Show me how to trust You and allow You to guide my steps. Help me believe in Your sovereignty and Your goodness, even when I don’t understand. Strengthen my faith and fill me with the peace that surpasses all anxiety. Amen.

New beginnings often find us filled with enthusiasm and determination, but they can also trap us into frantic rhythms and pressures that, over time, prove to be exhausting. In this plan, we will explore the value of slowing down and discovering how God-guided rest helps us to see His plan more clearly and live aligned with His purpose for us.
