When You're at a Crossroads

Yesterday, we talked about the importance of trusting and seeking God when we’re on the journey of discovering and utilizing our gifts and abilities. Today, we’ll briefly discuss what it looks like when you have to make a decision and multiple options are available.

I hear all the time from people that they don’t want to make the wrong decision. I would venture to say that 80% of the conversations Austin and I have with people are about which choice to make between several options. While I understand (from personal experience) the desire to not disappoint God by making the “wrong” choice, I also know this:

God can’t direct you if you’re not moving.

So often, people choose to stay put and do nothing until they hear from God. As Ruby encouraged us a few weeks ago, when we don’t know what to do, we have to do what we know to do–and that’s move. What I love about our verses for today, particularly Isaiah 30:21, is that Isaiah, the prophet speaking, is encouraging the Israelites to move! He says that they will “hear a word behind [them], saying ‘this is the way, walk in it.’”

Often, we want God to tell us which way to go before we even start moving. However, this verse says that “whenever [we] turn to the right or to the left” (Isaiah 31:21), we’ll hear God’s voice guiding us.

So, if you find yourself stuck at a crossroads today, let me encourage you to pick a path. Start moving, and as you move, prayerfully consider each and every step. Be attentive to what God is saying to you, and be open to redirection. After all, it’s a lot easier to redirect someone when they’re already moving!

Action Step: Take one step today to start moving. Place a phone call, send an email, submit an application, etc. Prayerfully ask God to guide you as you take each step.
