Jesus is My Friend

Writing today’s entry, my mind was brought back to a chapel service in ministry school. One of our pastors was preaching about the friendship of Jesus, and he showed us a YouTube video of a song called “Jesus is My Friend” by Sonseed from the 1970s. If you know the song, you know that the phrase “Jesus is my friend” sticks with you!

While the song was a fun way to introduce the message that day at chapel, I am thankful for it because it kept my mind meditating on the phrase and fact that Jesus is my friend.

Yes, Jesus is the Son of God (Matthew 3:17). Yes, Jesus is the King of Kings and Lord of Lords (Revelation 19:16), but He is also our friend. He is the friend who sticks closer than a brother (Proverbs 18:24). He is the friend who loves at all times (Proverbs 17:17). He is the friend who forgives (Proverbs 17:9).

It is essential to know how mighty and awesome our Jesus is, but it is also important to know how personable and relevant He is to us. He is close, sticking with us through every season. He’s authentic, being the most genuine friend we’ve ever known. He forgave us more than anyone will ever have to forgive us, and He laid down His life for us, an act that John 15:13 says is the sign of the “greatest love.”

If you’ve never considered Jesus in this way, I encourage you to see Him as your friend today. Talk to Him like a friend and ask Him to be a part of your day. Listen to what He’s saying to you and thank Him for who He is and what He’s done. Jesus isn’t just our friend; He’s our best friend!
