Do you ever feel like a perfectionist? If so, you know it can be pretty stressful. You always know things could be just a little bit better if you worked a little harder or spentmore time getting it right. Yeah . . . it's annoying.
You don't have to be a perfectionist to get stressed out about doing the right thing in life. There is so much pressure to do good, be informed about every issue, and make the right call. It can all start to build up and make you feel a little paranoid. There are so many decisions to make during the day and so much pressure to get it right. Wouldn't it be nice just to stop worrying about it for once? What happens when the stress of doing good gets to be just too much?
Peter wrote about this in 1 Peter, and he said that, yes, sometimes doing the right thing can be stressful. He reminded his readers that Jesus suffered, too. When we feel stressed about doing good, we can remember that Jesus was right there. He knows how it feels.
If we're feeling worried or stressed about doing good, that usually means we're on the right track. The good news is that God blesses people trying to make wise choices, and what you are going through right now will be worth it. You don't have to be a perfectionist; you can learn to rely on the one who is already perfect.
