Single but in a Relationship With Godنمونہ
How do I know if I’m in the season to date?
Maybe you’re not currently dating or pursuing someone, but wondering if you’re in the place where God is okay with you dating. When is the right time to date?
The answer is God will tell you. We have a God who guides and counsels us (Psalm 32:8).
What we have to watch out for are God’s red lights—convictions from God telling us that this is not the season or person to date.
A reason why God may have you stay single is that He has more He wants to do in you that He can only do best when you are single. Another reason could be that the person you are pursuing will pull you away from God.
I finally had the courage to let go of my boyfriend to eventually meet the one who was right for me. I never thought I would meet someone who could meet my needs both physically and spiritually, but I did. He was the person I had always prayed for. This relationship ended up being the first relationship where we both were growing closer to God and walking the same path to accomplish God’s calling for our lives.
Before God walked me into this relationship, I first had to learn to be single and whole. I call this the cocoon season—the time when we get to be alone with God and be transformed in Christ as a butterfly.
During my alone times with God, I would feel Him tugging at my heart to stay focused on Him. Though I met Michael (my husband now), I knew it wasn’t the time just yet to get in a relationship with him. We stayed as good friends but had boundaries that allowed me to focus on building my foundation in Jesus.
God wants us to be whole in Him before getting in a relationship. If we don’t become whole in Jesus, our partner will soon be the one we look to complete us.
The reality is that only God can fill the emptiness that’s inside of us. If we are still looking for a companion to fill our needs, then we are not ready for a relationship.
God never said the halves will become one flesh. He said, “the two will become one flesh” (Mark 10:8 NIV).
God wants us to learn that it is Christ who completes us. God’s vision of marriage is two whole people in Christ coming together to become one for a greater purpose for God’s kingdom.
Jesus is the true remedy to fill and satisfy your soul.
Will you invite Jesus into your heart? Ask the Holy Spirit to give you a revelation of His love for you and to guide you in the time to date.
