What Lies Ahead

Anxiety often finds its foundation in the unknown. Can’t see what’s around the bend? There’s where the struggle often lies: in the unknown.

Hot, dry, and dusty as the wilderness was, the children of Israel were used to it. God had given them shoes that didn’t wear out and clothes that lasted longer than my dad’s polyester pants from the 70s. I think they must have known just how special it was to have God’s promise when they unstrapped their sandals at the end of a long day. The wilderness wasn’t comfortable, and yet, they knew what to expect. That was comforting.

In Deuteronomy 31, Moses begins his legacy farewell speech. Twice Moses told the children of Israel to “be strong and courageous.” He commanded them not to be afraid or terrified, not to worry and fret. He reiterated that God was with them. The uncertainty, the unknown, none of that mattered because greater was the One who was with them than the one who was in the world. God is with you just the same.

Not only is He with you, He goes BEFORE you. Those uncharted waters ahead? You don’t need to fear. No matter what lies ahead, your God already knows about it. He has laid out the order of your steps, and when you walk with him, He is all you need.

You don't have to fear the unknown because God has already planned your steps. You can take comfort in knowing that God's promise is greater than anything in this world, and He is always with you, no matter what lies ahead.

Calm Your Heart With This Prayer

Lord, thank you for being with me. Though I am tempted to be afraid, help me remember that You are not a faraway God. You are right here with me, and You know the way ahead. You have not left me, and You never will.

See you tomorrow!
