Two Very Important Words: “I’m sorry.”
In 1970, Love Story was a hit at the box office. Have you heard that very famous line? “Love means never having to say you're sorry.” What a big, fat lie!
Any happily married person will tell you that sorrow and repentance are crucial! We must be humble and broken enough to admit our errors.
Married life is unlike the fairy tales in which everybody lives happily ever after. It is sometimes painful and complicated and takes a lot of effort and compromise.
So when you blow it, be bold enough to know it. Then suck it up and say, “I’m sorry.”
Think about it:
Whom have you sinned against? What relationship do you need to mend? If you can’t think of anyone you may have offended, who has offended you? Is there anyone you have bitterness or resentment toward? Whom do you need to forgive, and perhaps, in turn, ask for their forgiveness?
Pray about it:
Dear God, please bring any relationships I need to address to my mind. Give me the strength to ask for forgiveness and the love to forgive. Thank you for your ultimate forgiveness, and let me never forget the sacrifice that made it possible. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
