Dare to Dream Differently
Today, we’ll continue to discover the purpose God has for us as we come to terms with our unique vision.
God has put a vision inside of you, even if you can’t see it yet! He sees things in you that you don’t yet see yourself. Maybe you’re like I was, and you don’t yet have a vision for your life. Or possibly, you have a vision, but God wants to remove the limitations of your perspective, so you can dream bigger and differently than ever before. No matter where you are right now, recognize that God wants to give you His vision for your life. He believes in you, and He wants to show you what He sees. Keep in mind that your calling may look different than what you originally thought it would be. It will change and grow over time.
What is vision? How do we get it, and where does it come from? Vision is defined as the act or power of seeing or imagining something. Vision is the big picture in your mind of what you want to accomplish. It’s the ability to imagine and visualize a desired outcome. It’s seeing the end result, outcome, or impact of something you want to do. Once you have vision, you can work toward a goal.
Proverbs 29:18 (KJV) says, “Where there is no vision the people perish, but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.” This is one of my favorite Bible verses because it carries powerful truths. Take time to go through this verse in different translations, and see how each captures its truth.
True vision is having God’s perspective about our lives and the world in which we live. To get clarity about His vision—His point of view—we must get His perspective. We must come higher and get closer to Him to see what He sees. Isaiah 55:9 says, “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts.” Seeing things God’s way will help us see beyond the obstacles and challenges, the excuses and fears, and beyond all the unknowns and uncertainties.
Hope in the Lord gives you true, biblical vision. Hope is illustrated through the picture of an eagle in Isaiah 40:31: “But those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not faint.” You can soar when you have hope in the Lord and see things from His perspective. Perspective provides power. The eagle’s wings are designed to catch the wind, so it can soar without even flapping them. They can do this for miles at a time. Just as the eagle has this ability to fly in the winds of adversity, hope allows us to rest and soar, knowing that God is in control.
Dream big, but begin small. God is calling you to dream differently and solve a problem. Our vision should be big enough that it impacts others after we are gone. Narrow your focus, use your strengths, and be unique. Be willing to step out in faith. Risk comparisons, risk failure, risk the I-told-you-so accusations, risk security, risk provision. Take a chance on God. Dream differently. Dream big. Take a step, and watch God fulfill His vision for your life.
When you close your eyes, what do you see? What are you doing? Whom are you doing it with? Whom are you doing it for, and what is the impact you have? Can you see it, like a movie preview? At the end of your life, what will people say about you? What will they thank you for the most? What prayers to God will your life answer? What are you doing that causes heaven to come down to earth?
