Does God Cause Suffering?

ДЕНЬ 5 З 5

Day Five: How Does This Apply to Us Today?

This brings us to our last question regarding the Book of Job. How does this story line up with our present position in Jesus? Does the enemy have access to us in the same way he had access to Job? According to the Word the answer is no, definitely not. Jesus has destroyed the works of the evil one (1 John 3:8). He spoiled principalities and powers in the cross (Colossians 2:15), and He has been given as the head over all things to the Church (Ephesians 1:22). “Lord, even the demons submit to us in your name” (Luke 10:17). Therefore, we need not fear the work of the enemy, for sudden disaster shall not overtake us (Psalms 91:3-10).

Yet the application of Job is simple. Even though we have these promises and we are not in bondage to fear (remember, Job may have had some of these promises too, although not a fraction of what we now possess), there are still some inexplicable events which may confront us.

Should we expect the unexpected then? Are we to wonder what will happen to us next? Of course not. The Word is sure, and the promises of God are everlastingly true. There is a good answer for everything that happens. Yet because of our earthly limitations, we don’t always understand, and therefore, there seem to be some “exceptions to the rule.” Don't be shaken and don't be moved. The “exceptions” are only apparent and not real, for if the law is from God, it is fixed forever. The exceptions will pass. The circumstances will change. But the Word of God will always endure.

Does God Cause Suffering?

How do we justify the actions of God in the Old Testament? Who is this Father? In this devotional, we will see not only is God just, totally for mercy, and totally against cruelty, but He has given us the answer to overcome suffering through His Son, Jesus Christ. Even through trials, we have assurances that the Lord will deliver us from them all.
