ARAW 7 NG 7

HOLY (Set Apart)

The word “holy” is usually associated with God who is pure, perfect and righteous. We also use that word to refer to something sacred or religious in nature. Given these, to be holy seems too impossible to reach.

If we see holiness only as an equivalent to being morally good and upright, then it is truly an unreachable status. However, when we read the stories in the Bible of the men that were considered holy, we can see that holiness is more than just doing good.

The word “holy” means to be “set apart for God’s purpose.” In His Word, God said "Be holy, because I am holy." God is not telling us to do holy things, but to be holy. According to the covenant God made with us, we will be His people and He will be our God. The call of holiness is founded on the relationship we have in Him. We are “set apart” for God and His purpose.

As a singer, when I do my vocal recordings in a studio, I go inside a room set apart from any other noise that might ruin the song I work on. Ideally, no else goes inside that room except me. I use headphones to clearly hear the music. Using the headphones makes it easier for me to sing on the right note and on the right timing. It's the same thing with being holy. We are set apart from distractions; from anything impure. As His children, He has set us apart for a specific and special purpose. This very truth motivates us to really listen to His voice and follow His leading. We fix our eyes on things above, not letting any distraction, noise or sin hinder us in fulfilling why we exist.

God made it possible for us to be holy and righteous through Jesus Christ. Jesus became sin so we could become His righteousness (2 Corinthians 5:21). We are holy because we are “in Christ.” We are united in Him as we receive Him as our Lord and Savior. Our lives are now hidden in Christ and the life we live now in the body is a life that is lived by faith in Him.

Now, doing the things God called us to do is an evident manifestation of us being holy. It all goes back to knowing our identity. In Christ, we are redeemed. Just as a fish would always swim, and a bird would always fly, we, as children of a holy God, should do things that reflect the holiness of God.

Acel Van Ommen: You are a Child of the King

This is about our identity in Christ. It focuses on what it is to be a child of the King of Kings. Knowing that identity changes our mindsets and keeps us aligned with His Word.
