What Jesus Said About His Lordship

ARAW 3 NG 7

Accepting the Lordship of Christ

Today, there is a big focus on Jesus as Saviour, His love, grace and mercy. But generally, there is limited focus on His Lordship because we do not like anybody to "Lord" themselves over us in our modern age. The world and many Christians reject the Lordship of Jesus - and pay a heavy price for it. If we do not understand God's love, if we do not understand Jesus' sacrifice on the cross and the price he paid to leave heaven for our sake, the Lordship of Christ will be experienced as brutal and a tyrant. People will not be able to see that freedom is only possible in the shadows of the Lordship of Christ.

In the book of Acts, there are 92 references where Jesus is described as Lord and 747 in the whole New Testament. In contrast, Jesus is mentioned as Saviour twice in Acts and another twenty-four times in the rest of the New Testament. One of the essential messages of the Bible is that Jesus is Lord. This means Jesus Christ is the Kurios (Lord), the Master, supreme over any other power.

Consider the following verses:

But in your hearts set apart Jesus as Lord (1 Peter 3:15).

If you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved (Romans 10:9).

Not everyone who says to me "Lord, Lord,” will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only those who do the will of My Father who is in heaven (Matthew 7:21).

Missionary S.M. Zwemer said: "Unless Jesus is Lord of all, He is not Lord at all."

Obedience: Which areas in your life are not under the Lordship of Jesus? Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal such areas to you. These are areas of self-love and being "my own boss".
