God Sees Me!

ARAW 4 NG 9

When you ask for forgiveness, God no longer looks at your sins

“Hide your face from my sins, and blot out all my iniquities. Create in me a clean heart, O God” (Psalm 51:9-10).

David is deeply aware of his sins after God confronted him with his behavior through the prophet Nathan. David does not try to find excuses. He does not justify his transgression. But neither does he sit down in despair and self-reproach.

Instead, David asks God for forgiveness and for a pure heart. He does not intend to continue sinning as soon as the Lord closes His eyes to David's sins. No, David truly repents and wants to change. He wants to be in a right relationship with the Lord God again, and therefore he longs for a pure, sinless heart.

David received forgiveness indeed. And he is not the only one. The prophet Micah exclaims in amazement: “Who is a God like you, pardoning iniquity and passing over transgression…?” (Micah 7:18).

When God forgives, He does not revisit our sins. He throws them into the depths of the sea (Micah 7:19) to be forgiven and forgotten!

If someone has wronged you and asks you for forgiveness, are you willing to wholeheartedly forgive them and forget about what happened? Or will you dwell on their misdemeanor for years to come, letting it ruin your relationship and causing you to become bitter and full of resentment? Do you have an example from your own life when it comes to giving and receiving forgiveness?
