He Is Risen!

Sunday has come, the first day of the week. The Sabbath is over, and people get back to the business of everyday life. But this isn’t going to be an ordinary Sunday. Jerusalem is still packed with travelers for the Passover celebration, which, of course, has been overshadowed by the public execution of the popular Galilean preacher Jesus. For the past three years rumor has circulated throughout Galilee that Jesus is the long-awaited Messiah, but for many, his crucifixion kills that hope. Those who’d known him personally waken on Sunday with grief-filled hearts, unable to bear the loss of their teacher and friend—and, yes, their Lord. Bewilderment mixes with grief as they try to make sense of it all. But in just a matter of hours, their grief will turn to joy

Reflection:

Jesus lingered on earth for forty days after he was raised from death because he wanted to be with people he loved and reveal himself to them. Still today he wants to be with people and reveal himself, which he does through his word, the Bible. Do you regularly sit with him and listen to what he says? Or has Bible reading become one more item on your daily to-do list? If your time in the word isn’t all you’d like it to be, name some practical ways to change your approach.
