Jesus, I Need You Part 8

DAY 4 OF 6

QUIET MOMENT

Like the light of the world, Jesus also refers to us as the salt of the earth. Salt enhances flavor. Our lives are to draw attention, in a positive way, to the gospel. We are to be salt. Read 1 Peter 3:15-18. How might this be a practical example of what it looks like to be salt in our world?

GOING DEEPER

When Jesus described the early Christians as salt, they were words of honor. Salt in that day was highly valued for many purposes. It was used for seasoning, but it also represented the ideas of purity and dedication. Salt was even used in offerings. For example, the incense offering was to be “seasoned with salt” (Exodus 30:35).

Let’s look at Colossians 4:6. Do you know any people whose speech is this gracious? How do their words and deeds impact others around them?

We have looked at being light and salt. Read 2 Corinthians 2:14-16. What image is used here? The Bible uses the images of light, salt, and aroma for how we are to represent Christ to the world. Interestingly, each of these has a corollary in one of our senses. The imagery of light applies to sight. Salt applies to taste. And aroma applies to smell. Those around us are to see, taste, and even smell the Lord Jesus in us!

REFLECTION AND PRAYER

Are you willing to be salt and light? How are you doing amongst friends? Neighbors? Your children? In what way do you think you have a positive influence on those around you? A negative influence? Bow before the Lord and ask Him to reveal the image you are leaving with your life.

TAKE THE TRUTH TO HEART AND BRING THE TRUTH TO LIFE

Choose one truth from today and apply it to your heart. Take it with you throughout the day.
