Below as in Above: 5 Days in the Lord's PrayerНамуна

Over the next few days, we'll walk through the Lord’s Prayer line by line and rediscover its power beyond mere familiarity. We’ll explore the key themes woven into its words—beginning with worship, moving through provision, pardon, forgiveness, and protection, and ending once again in worship. The Lord’s Prayer isn’t just a routine—it’s a rhythm. A holy cadence that syncs our hearts with heaven. Today, we start with verses 9-10–worship.
WORSHIP
Prayer isn’t just about asking—it’s about aligning. And the way Jesus teaches us to start? With worship. Before we bring our needs, we lift our eyes. Worship sets the stage for everything that follows. In the opening lines of the Lord’s Prayer, we see three key movements of worship: designation, anticipation, and consecration.
Our Father in Heaven, Hallowed be Your Name | Designation
Designation is a title or name. Jesus gives you shocking permission to speak to God—the Creator of everything—as Our Father. The disciples would have found addressing God as Daddy alarming because, in the Old Testament, He was known as Elohim (The Strong One), El Shaddai (The Mighty One), or Yahweh (I Am That I Am). They revered His name so highly that they would remove the vowels when writing it to avoid making it common or familiar.
Those titles make God feel distant, but Father is close. Daddy is intimate. John 1:12 tells us that Jesus opened the door for us to be adopted as children of God! Because Jesus became what we are, we can now become what He is—a child of God. He is our only way into the family. Except for one moment on the cross, Jesus always referred to God as His Father. Our prayer life should mirror that—a child running into their Daddy’s arms. Our Father in Heaven reminds us that He is both intimate and majestic.
Your Kingdom Come, Your Will Be Done | Anticipation
Anticipation builds in our hearts when we pray for His Kingdom to come. This is a cry for the return of Christ, for resurrection, for a world without pain or sorrow. And the more we long for His Kingdom, the more traction, momentum, and fuel we will find to do His will here and now. Thinking of above gives us strength for below.
But this is also an evangelistic prayer. The Kingdom of God isn’t just coming—it’s already within us. As we pray these words, we are asking God to bring His Kingdom into the lives of those around us through our actions and words.
On Earth as It Is in Heaven | Consecration
Consecration is a surrender to His will being done on earth as it is in heaven. This is where we stop asking for our plans and start aligning with His. When we pray this, we are saying, “What You want, I want.” And because He knows the end from the beginning, we can trust that what He wants is always best.
But this prayer isn’t just words—it’s a call to action. We can choose to see it answered by the way we live. His will isn’t just something to pray for; it’s something to walk in.
Action Step
Memorize The Lord’s Prayer and pray it three times a day, just as David and Daniel did. As you pause with each line, express gratitude, extol His power, and worship Him. The Lord’s Prayer begins and ends with praise—don’t rush past it to get to your worries. The more time we spend in worship, the less time we will spend weighed down by our worries. Prayer is a transfer of power.
Prayer
Lord, I want prayer to become my default. Every time I speak with You, let words of praise be the first that comes to mind. I know that when I focus on Your goodness, kindness, and faithfulness, I will gain a greater perspective on the worries I need to place at Your feet. Thank You for bending Your ear to hear me.
