DAY 38 OF 40

Day 38: Gratitude

Read

Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus. –1 Thessalonians 5:18

Connect

Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good—no matter what!

On good days and bad, whether you’re healthy or sick, single or in a relationship, happy or sad, God is good. Your circumstances can’t change the truth: He is worthy to be praised.

He has done exactly what He has promised, and that’s worth a thank-you, isn’t it?

The LORD says, “I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you.” –Psalm 32:8

But we don’t always understand what He does.

We wonder how a God who loves us could ever let us suffer, why a God who loves us wouldn’t spare us the pain of rejection, abuse, breakups, divorce, death…

But God’s love doesn’t exempt us from pain. It assures us that He holds us closely while we feel pain.

God has never left you. He completely loves you. He only wills what is good for you, even during difficult seasons.

When you thank Him, you turn toward Him. Your gratitude nudges you closer. And He delights in that because of what it expresses: your trust.

I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit. –Romans 15:13

Thanking God on easy days is no different than thanking Him when your day is difficult.

It always shows Him what you know: that He truly is good.

Pray

Lord, Your goodness gives me hope. I am grateful that there is no circumstance that changes how much You love and care for me. Thank You for the blessings I’ve already received—and thank You in advance for the blessings yet to come.

Reflect

What past relationship experiences are you most grateful for? What did you learn? In what ways did your relationship with God deepen as a result?

About this Plan

Unhooked: Holy in a Hookup World

Take 40 days to look more deeply at the parts of your heart that need to be healed—so you can break the cycle of a broken heart and thrive in your singleness. While intimate relationships are designed to remind you of God’s love for you, living them out in a fallen world often results in wounds. This plan will help you move closer to Christ, in your pursuit of hope and healing.
