More Than Just a Story - the Book of JohnНамуна

Have you ever had a moment when you knew your life was about to change? That’s what happened when Jesus called His first disciples. John the Baptist pointed to Jesus and said, “Look, the Lamb of God!” (John 1:36). Two of John’s disciples immediately followed Jesus, eager to know more. Instead of giving them a long lecture, Jesus simply asked, “What do you want?” (John 1:38). It’s a question He still asks us today.
Jesus didn’t wait for perfect people to follow Him. He called ordinary fishermen like Andrew and Peter, men who had doubts and weaknesses. When Philip found Nathanael and told him about Jesus, Nathanael was skeptical. “Can anything good come from Nazareth?” he asked (John 1:46). But Philip didn’t argue—he simply said, “Come and see.” Sometimes our previous conclusions prevent us from staying curious, so we miss what what we truly want and need.
Jesus sees beyond our doubts and preconceived notions. He saw Nathanael under the fig tree before they even met, just as He sees us in our daily struggles. He calls us not because we are worthy, but because He loves us. When we meet Jesus, we can’t help but invite others to "come and see" for themselves.
Maybe you feel like you’re not qualified to follow Jesus. Maybe you think your past disqualifies you or that your doubts are too big. But Jesus calls you just as you are. He meets you in the everyday mess of life and invites you into something greater. The question is: Will you follow Him?
Reflection Questions:
- When Jesus asks, “What do you want?” (John 1:38), how would you answer?
- Have you ever hesitated to invite someone to meet Jesus because of doubt or fear?
- What step can you take this week to follow Jesus more closely?
