More Than Just a Story - the Book of JohnНамуна

Before anything existed—before the stars, the oceans, or even time itself—Jesus was there. John 1:1 says, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” Jesus is called “the Word” because He is God’s way of speaking to us, showing us who He is. He wasn’t created—He has always been. He was with God from the very start, and He is God.
That means Jesus didn’t just show up when He was born in Bethlehem. He was the One who made everything. John 1:3 says, “Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.” Every mountain, every tree, every sunrise—Jesus made it all. And He didn’t just create the world and walk away. He stepped into it. The Creator of the universe left heaven, came to earth, and met us on our level as one of us.
Why would He do that? Because we needed it more than we knew. The world was broken. Darkness, pain, and sin had taken over. But John 1:5 gives hope: “The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” Jesus came to bring light—to show us what real life looks like and to bring us back to wholeness. Even though many rejected Him, He didn’t give up. He kept loving, kept teaching, and eventually gave His life to save all of humanity.
The fact that Jesus was there at the beginning, that He created everything, and that He is bigger than time itself—it changes how I see Him. He isn’t just a wise teacher or a good example. He’s the One holding everything together, including my life and yours. When I feel lost or overwhelmed, I can trust that He sees the full picture. He knows my past, my future, and every detail in between. No matter how dark life gets, His light is stronger.
Lastly, think about this: The Creator came to His creation (you and me) and purchased us with His life—to redeem us and save us. This is unbelievable. He created us, so we already belong to Him. But when we messed things up, He left the perfection of heaven, came to the earth He created, lived among the people He created, and bought us back from the brokenness of the world. He paid for us when he already owned us.
Can you imagine doing that in your own life? Imagine building a car in your garage, piece by piece. After finishing it, you drive it, and over time, it gets dings, paint chips, and scratches. Then, instead of just fixing it, you have to go to a dealership and buy the car. That doesn’t make sense—but that’s exactly what Jesus did for us. The extravagant love of Jesus knows no bounds. He operates outside of our understanding of love, grace, and mercy.
This is the God of the Bible. This is the God we worship.
How does knowing that Jesus created everything—including me—change the way I see Him?What are some areas in my life where I need to trust that Jesus is in control?
How can I let Jesus' light shine through me in the way I live and love others?
