THE VOCATION: HELPING OTHERS
Here we are, rounding the last lap on our journey together. Ready for the final step?
Step 12 brings us to the great purpose behind all we’ve done: to give away what we’ve received. This step is not the end of the journey—it’s the beginning of a life rooted in serving others and sharing the gifts we’ve been given.
Here’s the paradox of spiritual life: you have to give it away to keep it. The joy, peace, and healing you’ve experienced will grow as you share them. When we focus on others, we discover meaning, purpose, and the thrill of being used by God. But when we hoard what we’ve received, it fades.
The Bible reminds us of this truth:
“One person gives freely, yet gains even more; another withholds unduly, but comes to poverty.” (Proverbs 11:24)
And Jesus himself taught, “Whoever tries to keep their life will lose it, and whoever loses their life will preserve it.” (Luke 17:33)
When we give, we step into a flow of grace that transforms both us and those we help. Our suffering, once a source of shame or pain, becomes our greatest gift. As Paul wrote:
“Praise be to the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.” (2 Corinthians 1:3-4)
TODAY'S INVITATION:
Reflect on your own journey. Where have you been hurt, healed, or changed? Think of someone who might need the hope you’ve found. Share your story or offer a word of encouragement. Remember: your mess can become your message.
As you go about your day, ask God, “How can I joyfully serve You today?” It could be a kind word, a helping hand, or simply listening to someone who feels unseen. When we give freely, we discover that the blessings flow both ways.
This step reminds us that the journey is not just about us. It’s about a larger story—one where healing, hope, and love are multiplied as we share them with others. Let’s step into that story today.
