Growth and understanding mark maturity in life and faith. Paul’s words challenge us to abandon childish ways and embrace the deeper, more serious aspects of love and commitment. This truth applies to our spiritual walk, our relationships, and especially, our marriage.

Often, we don’t fully appreciate the importance of something until it’s too late. Think about how a lack of seriousness in health, work, or school can lead to lasting consequences. For instance, the effort put into the first few weeks of college classes can shape your GPA—and ultimately your success—for years to come. Marriage follows a similar pattern. When we neglect our relationship with our spouse or fail to hold it in high regard, it becomes much harder to repair the damage later. Taking your marriage seriously from the beginning means honoring your spouse, prioritizing communication, and building your life together on the foundation of faith, hope, and love.

Paul reminds us that while faith and hope are essential, love is the greatest. Love is not just a feeling—it is a decision, a commitment, and a reflection of Christ’s love for us. In marriage, this love must be intentional. It means choosing to forgive, choosing to serve, and choosing to prioritize your spouse even when it’s difficult. Just as we strive to grow in our walk with God, we must also strive to deepen our love and connection with our spouse.

Lord, thank You for teaching us about the power and importance of love. We take that seriously and recognize how valuable it is. Help us to leave behind childish ways and to grow in maturity in our relationships. Teach us to love as You have loved us—with patience, kindness, and unwavering commitment. Strengthen our marriages and help us to honor our spouses in all we do. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
