DAY 21 OF 40

Christians Expect Persecution - Day 21

Prior to his crucifixion, Jesus told His followers that a time was soon coming when people would kill them and think they were doing God a favor. Most of us spend our lives trying to avoid trouble, pain, and discomfort, so expecting persecution is scary. But Scripture is clearer that we should be prepared.

In fact, Jesus gives us specific instructions on how to do this. In John 15, Jesus explains that we need to abide in him, meaning we need to we need to live attached to him. He says that without him, we can do nothing, but in Him, we can bear much fruit. He was upfront with his disciples about persecution so they wouldn’t fall away when met with adversity. This means the way to prepare for persecution is to abide in Christ. Today, be intentional about abiding in Christ through prayer, worship, and the Word.
