DAY 1 OF 5

From Guilt to Grace

Feeling weighed down by Mom guilt?

You know that guilt from wanting to be away from your child(ren) for even an hour. Or the guilt from losing your patience and snapping on your little one before you've had that morning cup of coffee. Maybe you don't feel you're the mother you envisioned you would be.

Mama, I, too, have experienced these and many other forms of Mom guilt as a mother of two. I've even allowed this guilt to impact my decisions, pursuits, and self-care. Internally, I would wrestle with myself with questions like "Am I doing enough to nurture my children?" or "Is it selfish to take time for myself?"I often believed I was falling short of the ideal mother to my children.

Mom guilt is a common feeling we face as mothers, no matter what stage or season we're in. It stems from our perception that we are not meeting our own expectations of how we should be as a mother. But what if I told you those expectations are not God's expectations for us? Mama, God doesn't seek perfection from us. He only asks that we trust Him, lean on His strength, and do our best. In 2 Corinthians 12:9-10, God leaves us with a promise that "His grace is sufficient for us" and that in our weakness (not our perfection), we are made strong. Learning this promise and living in this promise is a mental game changer.

Motherhood is a journey of growth and grace. The burden of perfection and guilt may weigh heavily on us, but through God's grace, we must release this pressure and embrace our motherhood journey with compassion, patience, and trust in His promises.

Today, I challenge you to release your Mom guilt and embrace the grace God freely gives to amazing mothers like you.

Reflect:

  • In what areas of motherhood do you feel the most guilt, and how does this guilt impact your relationship with God?
  • How can you invite God's grace into your moments of guilt, trusting that He is at work in your imperfections and is shaping you into the mother He's called you to be?

Prayer: Lord, I release my Mom guilt into your hands and ask that you fill me with grace to embrace my journey and strength to be the best mother you have entrusted me to be. Amen.
