Sorry Not Sorry

DAY 10 OF 15

When we take a moment to think about how it feels to forgive someone who has done something to hurt us, the word “delight” is not the first one that likely comes to my mind. “Reluctant” is probably closer to the truth, but if we were being honest, some days, the word “obligated” would be the better fit. We know what we should do, but that doesn’t mean we’re always happy about it. If a friend or family member made a joke at our expense, or a co-worker took something of ours without asking first, or someone close to us lies, our immediate reaction isn’t to see it as a chance to show love and grace. We aren’t delighted to extend forgiveness because we don’t want to be hurt in the first place! But we love and serve a God who does delight in that forgiveness. A God who not only forgives us no matter the situation but is more than happy to do so. God delights in it! And while that may not come naturally to us, we can lean on the God who forgives us (and delights in doing so!) to help us extend that same grace to others.

Today, think about a person who has committed some sort of offense against you. With their face in your mind, pray that God would help you not just offer forgiveness but to find some freedom, joy, and even delight in being able to do so this week.

About this Plan

Sorry Not Sorry

Forgiveness feels like something that we know we should do, but it isn’t always something we actually do. We all sometimes find it hard to live out forgiveness in our everyday lives. It’s hard to find a way to let go, but what if there is a way to let go and forgive? In this devotional, we’ll look at the way forgiveness can work in our lives to move us toward freedom for ourselves and others.
