Joseph had been through a lot already. Despised by his brothers because he had their father’s favor, he was thrown into a cistern and left for dead. But his brothers decided not to kill him when they realized they could make a little money selling him into slavery. So, Joseph was hauled off to Egypt, sold to Potiphar, an Egyptian official, and made one of his household slaves. It was so unfair. All of it. Joseph had done nothing wrong. Well, maybe he was a little bit arrogant about some of the prophetic dreams God had given to him—but he didn’t deserve to be treated the way he had been.
One day, when Potiphar’s wife tried to seduce him, Joseph could have rationalized the temptation and justified the sin. We all have really good ways of trying to make something wrong look right in our heads. But Joseph loved God, and he knew that sleeping with Potiphar’s wife would be wrong. So, he did the only thing he knew to do—he ran. There are times in life when stress and disappointment can get the better of us. In those moments, we can give in to temptations we’d normally stand right up against. The temptations are louder, and our defenses are down. But it’s never the right time to do the wrong thing. When we abandon the way of Jesus—even for a short time—we hurt ourselves, we hurt other people, and we hurt God’s heart. Our Father knows we have weak moments and wants to help us. God, give us hearts that never want to hurt Yours.

About this Plan

History tells many stories of drama regarding kings and queens. This governmental system of power and our fascination with it has existed throughout history—even in Biblical times. In this devotional, we’re going to take a closer look at some of the reigns of the kings who ruled over God’s people and what we can learn from the lives and reigns of the people who led God’s people over the centuries.
