The king of Babylon had made a 90-foot-tall golden statue and commanded the leaders to come to its dedication. When the leaders were all there, he ordered everyone to bow down and worship his golden statue or be burned to death in a fiery furnace. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego had worked in positions of leadership and were in attendance with the other leaders. There among their co-leaders, the three men refused to bow. The other leaders paid attention and brought the three men to the king, who reminded them of the fatal punishment for not bowing. The three men replied with one of the most faith-filled declarations in the Bible. They trusted God—whether or not He came through.
When hard times come, we are standing in a similar moment. We have just one moment to show our trust in God before we stand on the other side of whatever is going to happen. Sometimes, we will see how God came through. But when we’re standing in the unknown, we have our chance to trust God—to say and show we trust Him without knowing the outcome. So if you’re in a hard spot, if life is dark, cling to your belief in His goodness. Can you imagine how heaven was paying attention to these three men’s declaration? In your moment, you’ve got the attention of heaven, too. Use the opportunity to stand for your King. Your faith in that moment is so precious to Him.

About this Plan

History tells many stories of drama regarding kings and queens. This governmental system of power and our fascination with it has existed throughout history—even in Biblical times. In this devotional, we’re going to take a closer look at some of the reigns of the kings who ruled over God’s people and what we can learn from the lives and reigns of the people who led God’s people over the centuries.
