Love Is Patient: Embracing God’s Timing in Relationships When Starting as Friends

DAY 4 OF 5

Day 4: Spiritual Growth as You Wait

Waiting isn’t easy, is it? Whether you’re waiting for clarity about the future of a friendship or for God to reveal the next step in your life, it can feel frustrating or even unsettling. But Isaiah 40:31 reminds us that waiting is not wasted time. It’s a chance to strengthen not only your faith but also your heart and your mind. When you wait on God, you allow Him to work in you, preparing you for what’s ahead.

Think of this season of waiting as a gift — an opportunity to focus on your own growth. Ask yourself, “Who is God shaping me to become?” When you take the time to align your life with God’s purpose, you’re not just filling the waiting room of life; you’re allowing Him to refine you. Use this time to deepen your relationship with Him. Spend extra time in prayer, asking for wisdom and guidance for both you and the person you’re growing a friendship with.

When you’re patient in friendship, you’re allowing God to work beneath the surface. Maybe you don’t have all the answers right now, but this waiting period is a chance to prepare your heart for what’s next. It’s a season to focus on qualities like kindness, humility, and forgiveness, which will serve you in any relationship.

Imagine two trees planted side by side. One rushes to grow tall quickly, while the other takes its time, letting its roots dig deep into the soil. Which tree do you think will withstand a storm better? The one with the deep roots, of course. That’s what God is doing in this waiting season — giving your friendship time to take root and grow strong before anything else blossoms. If you rush ahead, you might miss the depth and stability God wants to build.

And don’t forget that waiting strengthens your connection with God, too. When you rely on His timing, you’re reminded that He knows what’s best for you better than you could imagine. Through prayer and quiet moments, you’re reminded that His love is never rushed. He is patient with you, and He calls you to reflect that same patience in your relationships.

Today, focus on how you can grow spiritually as you wait. Pray for clarity and peace, and trust that God is doing “good work” in you and through your friendship. When you wait on the Lord, He renews your strength and steadies your heart, preparing you for what’s to come — one day, one step at a time.
