Day 2 A Foggy Windshield
It often happens on wet, cold, and damp days: fogged-up windows!
The first reaction? Cranking the fan to full blast, or grabbing a cloth and frantically wiping. But the windows often stay foggy. Only when the engine warms up and provides heat to the fan, you’re able to deal with the moisture and clear the windshield.
I see a parallel with my life as a Christian—do you recognize this too?
Let me explain:
My life isn’t always spent on the mountaintops, where God’s power is so evident. The view from those lofty peaks gives you a sense of greatness and might and hopefully fills you with awe for the Creator. All your worries seem to fade away in the grandeur of His presence. But when you look down into the valleys, you see the villages and the tiny, insignificant people from above. Does this sound familiar?
In my own life, I often find myself in the valleys—worrying about all sorts of things, stressing over situations I can’t control. Where is society headed? Will I keep my job? What if I don’t make it home—will my family be okay without me? Of course, I know God takes care of them, but it’s still easy to worry. Sometimes, when my spiritual windshield gets fogged up, I have to lift my gaze upward—toward the sunlit mountains.
David says in Psalm 121: "I lift up my eyes to the mountains—where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth."
David probably experienced this help firsthand when he was tending sheep and a lion or a bear came his way. He recalls this when speaking to Saul before facing Goliath in 1 Samuel 17:34-37.
Just like the engine warms up and provides heat to the fan, which clears the foggy windshield, I find my day begins clearly when I start it with Jesus. When I take the time in the morning to read, pray, and seek His face, my soul is warmed. It’s like a motor—it may take a moment to heat up, but be patient. His warmth will come, and with it, a clear view through your spiritual windshield to see the path He has laid out for you.
Wishing you a safe journey and God’s blessing today!
