A Good Dog
by Cameron Ward
"Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths." — Proverbs 3:5-6
"It is the Lord who goes before you. He will be with you; he will not leave you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed." — Deuteronomy 31:8
Ready: A good hunting dog must have a strong bond of trust and obedience with its master. Even with impressive abilities like speed, beauty, or a strong nose, these traits matter little if the dog doesn’t prioritize following its master’s guidance. Similarly, we sometimes think we know the right path without consulting God. Proverbs 3:5-6 reminds us to trust in the Lord fully, setting aside our own understanding. Like a hunting dog trusting its master’s guidance to find the bird, we must trust God to lead us in the right direction, even when we can’t see the outcome ourselves.
Aim: Proverbs 3:5-6, Deuteronomy 31:8
Fire: At times, God may send us on a “blind retrieve,” guiding us where we can’t yet see the results. We can trust His commands completely, even when our understanding is limited. His guidance is always trustworthy.
Follow-Through: Spend time thanking God for His constant faithfulness and the perfect plans He has for your life. Commit to trusting Him more fully and following His lead, even when the path ahead is unclear.
