Finding Peace in an Imbalanced World

DAY 1 OF 5

Restore

I am more familiar with struggle than I’d like to admit, and since you’re finding yourself here, you may be too. In this busy world, it’s easy to become distracted. Demanding schedules and putting out fires can be overwhelming; I have lived this way. But finding peace in an imbalanced world does not have to be a pipe dream.

Jesus set an example for us with the story of Mary and Martha in Luke 10:38-42. A few words from the passage stood out to me. Will they resonate with you? But Martha was distracted. Martha, Martha; you are worried and upset about many things. Notice how Jesus responded to her with compassion.

It is common to misunderstand this text as Jesus being angry with Martha. However, this view induces guilt and shame that only keeps us bound. If Jesus is “love” like He says He is, we can know He wouldn’t shame us but gently redirect us to what is better and for our good.

Did Jesus have to say Martha’s name twice to get her attention? If she’s anything like me, then probably. But He spoke those words with compassion, not anger. Martha was so worked up and in a tizzy that she lost focus on what was most important. Do you need to refocus? Is the Lord calling your name? Take a moment to pause. Listen to His compassion for you.

Peace is possible in the middle of a busy schedule. On another day, when Jesus talked to his disciples, He said, “I have told you these things so that in me you may have peace. In this world, you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” John 16:33. A commentary on this passage explains that Jesus promises one thing: trouble in this world. But remember, peace is not just a possibility but is promised and offered to us through Jesus.

Let’s not overcomplicate His grace. We don’t have to earn our place as sons and daughters–we already have it. All we have to do is come to Him, and He provides peace.

Prayer: Father, thank you for reminding me of your unfailing love. Thank You for gently restoring my heart to Your heart so that through You, I may align with Your will and have peace. In Jesus' name, Amen.

About this Plan

Finding Peace in an Imbalanced World

We find our footing, belonging, purpose, and peace in and through a relationship with Jesus. You wouldn’t expect a relationship to thrive if communication was sparse, and time together was disposable. The further we move away from God, the harder the distance feels to regain. Unlike our earthly relationships, this is simply not the case with God. The moment we return, we are welcomed with beautiful restoration.
