Sing Praise: Five-Day Devotional by Passion Kids WorshipНамуна
Glorious Day
Throughout the Gospels, Jesus performs many miracles, including a miracle involving a dear friend.
In John 11:3, Jesus hears from two sisters, Martha and Mary, who tell Him their brother, Lazarus, a friend that Jesus loves, is very sick. A little bit later, Jesus arrives at Lazarus’s home, to find out that he has passed away. They go to his tomb, where Lazarus has been buried. Jesus loudly proclaims, “Lazarus! Come out!” (Even though he was warned that it would be stinky!)
Lazarus emerged from the grave still wrapped in burial clothes, but Jesus asked to have him unbound and set free! Lazarus was no longer dead, but alive!
While we may not be in a tomb wrapped in cloth, (and stinking!), we can still be dead. That’s because sin doesn’t just make us bad; sin makes us dead. But with Jesus Christ, we can be brought to life, just like Lazarus!
In the song, “Glorious Day”, we sing:
You called my name
Then I ran out of that grave
Out of the darkness
Into Your glorious day
Like Lazarus, Jesus cares deeply for us too! He calls us by name! Jesus wants to be our friend forever. Jesus is the Son of the one true God, who came to save us from our sins and make us alive in Him. When we believe that and when we put our trust in Him, we get a gift. And not just any gift, like a bike or a new game or a doll, but a gift that can never be taken away – the gift of eternal life! We get to be a part of God’s family forever and ever and ever and ever…
Why do we get this gift? Because God has loved us always – before we were even born!
“But because of His great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved.”
Ephesians 2:4-5
God loves us so much that he sent His Son, Jesus, to die for us so that we may live, and come out of the darkness of sin, and shame, and guilt, and into His glorious day!
