Prepare for an Encounter

DAY 2 OF 8

Spiritual Hunger

Have you ever sat down for dinner with a wonderful meal in front of you but you're just not hungry?

Maybe you were feeling a little sick or had a snack too close to dinner?

You can't enjoy the meal because you simply had no appetite.

So what do you do right now if you have no appetite for God... or no hunger for growing your inner spiritual life?

Dieticians tell us that we can develop an appetite for a certain type of food. If we are used to eating lots of sugary, unhealthy types of food, by choice and by discipline we can change and develop an appetite for healthier foods.

You can develop an appetite for the things of God by “eating less” of the things that spoil your appetite. Turn off your phone for a while. Spend less time in front of the TV. Make time to be still before God and simply read His Word. Listen to Christian music. Fill your mind with the Word of God.

Jesus said it is a blessed condition to have a spiritual appetite. He said:

"Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled” - Matthew 5:6 (NKJV)

Prayer

Ask God to help you increase your spiritual appetite using your above ideas.

Journalling

Read Psalm 63:1-3

Q: How does the psalmist describe his desire for God?

Q: What are some ways you can increase your spiritual appetite at home?
