The Kid: An Advent Devotional for High Schoolers

DAY 11 OF 28

Did you ever get separated from a parent or guardian when you were a kid? At first, it might’ve felt like a fun hide-and-seek game. That is, until you didn’t know where you were, how to find the people you came with, or what your parents would do to punish you once you were reunited. Believe it or not, there was a time in Jesus’ life when this very thing happened! On a family trip to Jerusalem, He found Himself separated from the rest of His family. What was He doing when they finally found Him?

At only 12 years old, Jesus was already learning from and talking with religious leaders. More than anything else in His life (the fear of punishment from His parents included), Jesus knew the value of His relationship with God. That’s why, even though He was God Himself in human form, Jesus found ways to connect with, learn about, and grow with His Father.

This Christmas, consider how you can do the same! (No, this isn’t permission to run away from your parents!) What’s one way you can spend time and connect with God? Even if it’s just a few minutes every day, make a point to connect with God as you move through this holiday season.
