The Nature Of The Harvest
The picture Jesus uses here for His kingdom is very organic. It follows the order of nature. The seed in the soil sprouts and grows, but the farmer can’t do anything; he doesn’t even understand how it is happening. The farmer has cast the seed, but he can’t make it grow. He can only wait while the crop is growing and developing. When it is ripe, he can harvest. The input of the farmer is really the simple part: He has nothing to do with the growth or creation of life from something dead. And it all happens while he goes to bed at night and gets up by day, during his day-to-day life.
So often it is hard to wait for God’s timing, to wait for His work to be done—but it is only He who can do it. What we know is that He will do it and that it will be time for harvest.
Prayer: Father, help us to find the balance between waiting and working for the harvest. Thank you for your miraculous work of creating life from what is dead.
