Eternal Impact
It has been said that there are two things that endure forever: the Word of God and the souls of men. This sentiment serves as a great mandate to surrender obediently to scripture and to share it with those who are without Christ; however, such statements are only partially accurate.
This is because the very Word of God that endures forever is the very same Word that declares that our work for Christ and His Kingdom will also endure forever. But how can this be, especially in light of numerous passages that inform us that we can add nothing to that which God does?
Clearly, there is a great mystery at work here, one that is not all that different than the mystery of the Incarnation itself. God has chosen to reveal himself by bringing his Word and the soul of a man together in Jesus.
But God is not done working in and through the souls of men. Each of us can offer up meaningful work of eternal significance, but in order for us to do so, our work must be offered up in obedience to God’s Word. Actually, it must be connected with bringing the Word of God and the souls of men together that people might “fear before him.”
Prayer: Lord, may we learn to incarnate your work, just as our Lord Jesus did. Let our work be pleasing to you and allow this work and those who benefit from it to endure forever.
