More Than Just Love: A Devotional for ParentsНамуна
Believing in the Gospel
Being a parent is one of the hardest blessings my family has ever chosen to do, and I bet if we could chat face-to-face, you’d tell me the same thing. We could swap stories about the good, the bad, the ugly.
I’ve cried more, laughed more, and experienced more anger than ever before, but the biggest thing I’ve learned is just how much our God loves us. He’s a big God who loves His children BIG.
God sent His Son to live amongst humans – sinners – so that the world might be saved through Him. As a parent, I know it can be hard sometimes to see the good in the world. You hear stories about the worst things happening to the most innocent: children. It’s hard not to get discouraged and if you’re like me, it’s helpful to experience encouragement along the way.
We have to remember why we choose to serve and love others. The Bible is clear: God doesn’t like sin. He doesn’t excuse it, but He has forgiven it through His Son who took our punishment for the sins we’ve committed. When we confess that we’re sinners and we need Jesus, only then does He offer His forgiveness.
When I think about how big God’s love is for me – that He would send His Son to die for me when I don’t deserve it – I can’t help but have an attitude of gratitude. I want to show God how thankful I am for the eternal life He’s given me. Obeying His commands is crucial to showing my love for Him.
Becoming a parent is a chapter in life where you can show God how much you love Him by serving and obeying the Scriptures – and being an example so our children can experience God’s love through us.
Today, take some time to write down the things you’re grateful for as a parent. Remind yourself of the reasons God has called you to the ministry of parenthood.
