HIS WAY AND HIS WORK
I refuse to set you up for disappointment by telling you that training for and sustaining a lifestyle of wellness will get easier. However, while it won’t necessarily be effortless, it will become more familiar.
When I recently prayed, asking God why following Him seems too hard, I sensed Him reminding me, “Alisa, you are getting My Way confused with My Work.” Then He brought to mind Matthew 11:30, where Jesus says that His yoke, or my work, is easy and light, and Matthew 7:13-14, where He says that His Way is narrow and small and few will find it.
In other words, the path God leads me on will be treacherous because the enemy will do everything he can to block the Way from people who haven’t yet found it. The enemy wants to get in the way of the Way to try to convince me that God is not good.
However, when I abide in Jesus, I can count on Him to make His work in me light.
In that quiet moment with God, I felt Him say, “Stay easy and light, Alisa. Abide in Me, and I will abide in you. Together, you and I will work to clear the Way so others can find it and follow Me, too. But remember, I get to do all the heavy lifting. The Way will be hard, but the work is easy and light.”
So what, then, is your work? It is to continue to let God do the work in you. It is to let God’s love work its way into you so your fear and unbelief will work their way out of you.
Seek the Spirit throughout your day. And when you hear His voice, do what He asks! His work in you is easy and light even when the Way feels hard. You are a “living sacrifice” (Romans 12:1), a person who can breathe, think, feel, speak, and act in accordance with love. You must persevere in the Way and let God do His work.
Reflect:
When you struggle because things feel hard, what will you do?
