Rock Solid
In Matthew 7:24-29, Jesus speaks with unmatched authority, guiding us on how to respond to His teachings. With so much authority, Jesus makes it very clear how we are to respond to His teachings. When we respond to them in ways that make them a part of our lives and seek through Him to truly live by them, we are like someone who builds their home on a foundation that is sturdy and safe. When we only hear the word of God but don’t respond to it, we are like someone who builds their house on unstable sand.
Consider these two foundations Jesus presents. The solid and safe foundation represents a life actively shaped by His teachings, grounded in obedience and faith. The unstable sand signifies a life where His words are heard but not embraced, leaving us vulnerable when faced with life's trials.
Reflect on your foundation. Are you intentionally building on the rock-solid teachings of Jesus, making them a genuine part of your daily life? Or is your foundation shaky, built on the sands of inaction? Jesus isn't just using metaphors; He's offering a profound truth about how we can construct a life that stands firm, grounded in His authority and wisdom.
Reflection
- How do you include Jesus' teachings in your daily life? Can you share a specific example?
- Think about a time when you followed something you learned from the Bible. How did it make you feel, and did it impact your choices?
- Are there areas in your life where it's tough to follow what Jesus teaches? What can you do to make those teachings a more solid part of your everyday decisions?
