Pause: A Month of Prayer in Five Minutes a Day

DAY 9 OF 30

Proclaim

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” (Phil. 4:6)

Prompt

I can feel when I’m not living like I know God desires. Maybe not instantly, but it doesn’t take long. One bad decision, one snippy comment, one negative thought about someone, and within a few days, I am no longer who I want to be.

Whenever I end up here, I find it best to seek out physical activity and push myself: I go for a hard run, a long swim, a tough hike, a bike ride, a long walk… anything physical. I spend the entire time praying, asking God to help me reposition myself in his hands.

Inevitably, somewhere during mid-exhaustion, I find God again and take my rightful place under His authority. Seeking God in everything we do is an act of prayer.

Today, as we meditate on our verse and listen to our song, let us remember the position we must be in to hear God’s voice best: under His authority and in His hands.

Prod

What are some concrete steps you can take when you start to feel outside the way God’s called you to live? Write them down now.

Praise

Pray

Jesus, thank you for journeying with me always and for guiding me back to your path when I stray from it. You are always there with me—you never leave my side. I’m so grateful for that! Today, please guide my thoughts and my reactions. Help me to stay in line with your will. Keep me safe. Keep me hopeful. Keep me, GOD! Keep me. Amen.

About this Plan

Pause: A Month of Prayer in Five Minutes a Day

Depression. Loneliness. Comparison. Greed. Addiction. People-pleasing. These are tools of the enemy to steal your calling and rob your joy. In this reading plan, drawn from his book, Lance Lang invites you to neutralize those tools by pausing each day, studying scripture, reading encouragement, taking action, and refocusing your attention on Jesus. Press forward into what God has for you. Press pause.
