The Fatherhood of God

DAY 1 OF 3

NAMED BY THE FATHER

God is God to everyone and a Father to believers – the ones whom He has adopted as Sons. "For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.” Rom 8:15 NKJV

God’s relationship with you as a believer goes beyond being your Creator. He is our Father, and we have received the authority to be called His Sons through faith in Christ.

The identity of the child comes from the Father. Therefore, as children of God, we must look to God to know our identity. The truth of who we are is written in His Word.

A particular scene from the iconic movie The Lion King comes to mind. The protagonist (Simba), having long been estranged from his childhood home, meets with another character from his childhood (Rafiki), who leads him to see a reflection of himself in a body of water. As Simba peers closely, he begins to see the image of his beloved Father. Even so, Jesus, who is the Word God, is the reflection and identity of the believer, so when we study the Word, we see who we really are in Christ.

"And all of us, as with unveiled face, [because we] continued to behold [in the Word of God] as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are constantly being transfigured into His very own image in ever increasing splendor and from one degree of glory to another; [for this comes] from the Lord [Who is] the Spirit." - II Cor 3:18 AMPC

We see from the Bible where the men of Antioch referred to men who were behaving like Christ as “Christians.” While this is not incorrect, God calls you so much more - He calls you by His own name!

He calls you Accepted in the Beloved.

He calls you Chosen.

He calls you Forgiven.

He calls you Righteous.

He calls you His Son.

In our world today, people are typically labelled and described by their actions or situations. Go through this day knowing that your actions do not define you. Reject any label that is at variance with the truth of God’s Word concerning your identity.

You have been named by the Father!

Declaration:

God is my Father.

I am His Child.

I am passionately loved by God.

I am powerfully helped by God.

I can never be stranded because my Father will always come through for me.

Grace is working for me!
