Why Me, God? Navigating Imposter Syndrome Through Faith

DAY 3 OF 3

Welcome to day 3 of “Why me, God? Navigating Imposter Syndrome through Faith.”

Whenever I’m feeling confused, I turn to the Book.

Now, the language may not be the same, but there’s a clear example of imposter syndrome in the Bible. (several, actually) Do you know who I’m thinking about right now?

I’ll give you a hint: he parted the Red Sea…

Yup! Moses. There are several instances in which Moses asked the question, “why me, God?” and each time, God showed up for him. Moses didn’t feel that he spoke eloquently enough or that he could lead God’s people to freedom, and yet…

He was chosen for a reason. Just like you and just like me.

Spiritual imposter syndrome can manifest in a variety of ways, for example feeling like you’re not worthy of God’s love and grace, or that you’re not as “holy” as another member of your congregation.

In fact, it happened to me! I too had a moment of doubt when I had the privilege of sharing space with some of the most anointed pastors in the world. Now, I too am an ordained minister, but sharing the stage with Bishop T.D. Jakes can make any pastor second guess if only for a moment. We’re human and humans grapple with insecurity and doubt.

Luckily, God always has the answers we need.

This was what I learned: we all have a different message to share, to different folks, and in different ways with the common goal of bringing lost, tired, forgotten, and weary souls to the warm embrace of our heavenly Father.

I may use YouTube while Bishop Jakes uses the pulpit, but we’re on the same team.

When you let imposter syndrome win, you may be inadvertently blocking your blessing or someone else’s. Trust that you are covered and walk with confidence.

Take some time today to reflect on this passage from Proverbs 3:5:

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.

Thank you for spending the past 3 days with me. I pray the message reached you at the right time.
